SEO can seem like a losing battle during some stages of the process, but there are quick ways to boost SEO without spending hours hunched over the computer. 435 Digital has compiled a list of tips that will improve search engine optimization. 1) Set up a Pinterest account (if you don’t have one) and start pinning relevant content. This is an easy, day-to-day task that can help build a greater online presence.
2) Find free directories to submit your company’s events. Some businesses have ongoing events posted on their site. These can be added to Patch and other geotargeted directories with a link back to the event on your site.
3) Revisit meta descriptions and image alt text — sometimes these fall by the wayside during site launch. Are these optimized to the fullest and do they convey what your business wants to achieve with its site?
4) Clean up duplicate content or meta descriptions/titles that are too short or too long.
5) Clean up the backlinks — run the site through Majestic and look for fishy backlinks or links that are clearly expired or irrelevant.
6) Do a Google image search – do all of these images that show up in the search engine have credit back to your site? If not, contact the person who posted the photo and ask for credit.
7) Create a competitive backlink spreadsheet to share with your team (include notes about each link, contact information and why it’s important to your business) — there’s a lot to be learned about what links to go after versus which links to avoid.
8) Write a blog post with relevant content that can be linked internally to your site. Do you have any special events or any vendors/partners you’d like to spotlight?
9) Make your local listings stand out — upload quality photos and include relevant information to all local directories. Do all addresses/phone numbers/other contact information show up the same on all platforms? Are the pictures of high resolution? Are the hours correct? Is there a thought out description of your business?
10) Set some Goals in Google Analytics. Brainstorm, write them down, and present them to your team in a way that shows their value.
11) Make a list of top bloggers in your business field. It’s a good idea to ensure that the bloggers are in the same area that your client wants to target.
12) Review the anchor text on your backlinks. Do these convey what you’d like them to? If not, request new text for these links.
13) Title Tags – what are they and do they need an update? Top-level keyword research could give you better titles, and therefore better SEO results.
14) Set up Google Alerts on the email you created to use for your SEO efforts. Check for industry changes, news that would be deserving of a blog post and anything else that’s relevant to your niche.
15) Take the time to follow blogs/forums/discussions within your niche and start posting on relevant topics/answering questions that would be in your field of knowledge.
16) Does your business have a YouTube page? Start optimizing the titles of videos, adding tags and descriptions or posting fresh content.
17) Does your site’s blog have relevant categories and tags? Add these in if they aren’t there.
18) Post your blogs to your Google+ Business page. The more content on here, the better!
19) Proofread your site. Are there misspellings? Awkward wording? Is the site lacking in keywords? These are all things that could be updated quickly.
20) Do you have an active presence on Twitter? Even if you’re not keen on tweeting, create an account and start following relevant people in the industry. You’ll learn a lot and have news and press releases at your fingertips.
